Heavyweight legend Mike Tyson looked every inch the 58-year-old over-the-hill fighter as he was comfortably beaten by Jake Paul in their controversial fight in Texas
Mike Tyson was comfortably beaten by Jake Paul in their controversial fight in Texas.
The 58-year-old gave away 31 years to the YouTube sensation in his first professional fight in almost 20 years and the ex-world heavyweight champion looked a shadow of his former self as he was defeated by unanimous decision.
The fight was shown live on Netflix, with the streaming platform farcically crashing multiple times before, during and after the undercard and the main event - while thousands of those in attendance at the home of the Dallas Cowboys WALKED OUT without knowing who had won. Paul was quick to make his excuses afterwards for the main event.
Earlier in the night, Katie Taylor claimed a controversial win over Amanda Serrano in another instant classic between the pair - but Serrano was left furious and branding the Irish champion 'dirty' and a cheat.

Jake Paul message
The victorious fighter has taken to X to give thanks to Tyson and the team that put the fight together.
"Thank you to every fighter on the card last night, thank u Netflix, thank u Jerry Jones, thank u to my MVP team, thank u to the legend Mike Tyson for giving me a chance to share the ring with him, thank u to my family and close circle of friends..and above all, thank you God." he said.

Piers Morgan's verdict
Another voice offering their verdict on the proceedings from the early hours. Piers Morgan had some kind words for Iron Mike.
"Prime Mike Tyson would have destroyed Jake Paul in 90 seconds. A 58yr-old Tyson went 8 rounds against a much fitter and very capable boxer half his age.
"Mock him all you like, but Mike’s got the heart of a lion, balls of steel, and will always be an absolute legend."

Sad face from Joe Rogan
Stateside, names don't come much bigger than Joe Rogan.
And before the fight, he was hopeful. Hopeful we'd see a showpiece fight. Hopeful Mike Tyson would look like the Mike Tyson of old.
He even tweeted as much, saying:
"I'm getting ready to watch this Tyson vs Jake Paul fight like I'm watching someone cast a spell that I hope actually works. And I don't really believe in magic. But I want to believe."
After the fight, he needed only three words to explain himself:
"Magic isn't real."
Brutal.

'Stop helping Jake Paul' says Tony Bellew
We mentioned Tony Bellew saying kind things about Jake Paul above.
Well, that's not all he's come out with, with regards this fight - and indeed Paul's career in the ring as a whole.
"We are all to blame for this man [Jake Paul]! We are all talking and watching. We have to stop this fool. Don’t tune into him until he fights someone who is fit, healthy and not a grandfather.
"Any proper boxing people helping Paul need to look at themselves. This is just sad."
Bellew of course joined in with the circus in the build up with a pre-fight stunt at the Thursday press conference.

Nicola Adams on Mike Tyson
The Olympic champion has said that there were too many high expectations for Mike Tyson's return to the ring.
She wrote on Twitter:
"I wanted to see Mike Tyson doing what he does but he is 58 years old, in exceptional shape but just not good enough to fight these young up and comers now."

The Netflix farce
Everybody loves Netflix. But my word they'll need to improve their live sports offering if they're to really make a move into the sphere.
Amazon Prime have done it well with Champions League, Premier League and NFL.
But Netflix had a shocker last night. Constantly crashing, needing to buffer regularly, and when you refreshed the stream, you never went back live, always a minute or so behind.
Live sport is their next frontier it seems.
But they need to figure it out fast, or sports fans will turn off even quicker.

Tyson's important phone call
Mike Tyson received a phone call from Turki AlAlshikh, the head of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, just minutes before he walked to the ring for his fight with Jake Paul.
"He got a phone call from a good friend of his and a big supporter, his excellency Turki Alalshikh, when he was in the locker room just before he went out," Tyson's team revealed at the post-fight press conference. "His excellency wished him the best and told him how proud of him he was and gave him a big pep talk."

McGregor's shame
We've covered Conor McGregor losing his money.
But the tweet he had to delete during the fight. Just shameful.
I get he wants to show his personality, can be a bit spikey. But it's just a tasteless comment to make.

Andre Ward's view on the fight
Pretty damning from the great, undefeated, two-weight champion Andre Ward.
He worked as an analyst on the fight for Netflix and told KO Artist Sports:
""Mike is 58, I don't know how many people feel like I feel but I appreciate Mike getting himself in shape and to go back and forth with a dude who's 27.
"Mike can still take a good shot. Sometimes the people who don't know boxing, maybe they're just here for the excitement, they don't understand, they're taking every word literally, they expect it to be lived out on fight night, but you forget he's 58, you can see Mike's brain was telling him to do stuff but his body wasn't doing it.
"When the legs go, the distance between him and Jake Paul was like five miles, he's trying to close the distance, he did it early, he just can't keep it up."
When asked if he felt Tyson was being carried, Ward admitted:
"I don't want to say that… it kind of seemed like that at times. And to be honest with you, I appreciate that. I wasn't going to be feeling that. What's the worst that's going to happen [if you don't knock Tyson out], you get a few boos? But you still honour and pay homage to an all-time great."

Logan Paul responds to Tyson challenge
So in the ring, we heard Tyson say he wouldn't mind fighting Logan next.
"Motherf****r I'd kill you Mike!"
Yep, that was the response. Classy.
Anyway, Logan Paul had more to say backstage about the possibility of fighting 'Uncle Mike'. Check it out

Tony Bellew on Jake Paul's decision
Interesting this.
Because Tony Bellew doesn't like Jake Paul. He is not a fan. But there's a sense that perhaps the Scouser fancies a pop in the ring at Paul - knowing there's money to be made.
Anyway, he's had this to say on social media about the end of the fight.

Jake The Merciful?
"The most important thing that Mike is going back home to his loved ones."
So says Jake Paul, who insisted he didn't want to hurt Mike Tyson and eased off in the final rounds.
"I wanted to give the fans a show but I didn't want to hurt someone that didn't need to be hurt. There was a point where he (Tyson) was not engaging back, I could just tell his age was showing a little bit. That violence war thing... that went away as the rounds went on."
We buying it? Or could he just not get the job done?

Suspensions for both after one-sided fight
Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will be handed suspensions from boxing in the coming days.
Neither man was hurt in the contest but as it was sanctioned as a professional event, both men will be ordered to rest by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the body overseeing the fight.
The regulations state each fighter will be told to rest for three days for every round fought; meaning 24 days' rest will be ordered for Paul and Tyson.
Of course, neither Tyson nor Paul would be expected to fight within three weeks of Friday's bout ending.
But they won't be allowed even if they were determined to.

Was Roy Jones Jr right?
On commentary, the former great put it simply.
"Mike doesn't have it anymore. Legs are gone."
Paul claimed post-fight that Tyson:
"was not engaging back, I could just tell his age was showing a little bit. That violence war thing... that went away as the rounds went on."
So while Tyson said he could step in the ring again, perhaps it's best that he doesn't.

Was Jake Paul injured?
The 'Problem Child' says he was.
In his post-fight press conference, he's given a rather detailed analysis of an ankle sprain... which sounds like far more than a sprain to us.
"Two days ago I sprained my ankle, completely tore the ligament, anterior ligament and like snapped the other side of my foot. Was on crutches for four or five days and it just hindered the end of my training camp.
"I don't know how it didn't get leaked or anything."
Hmmmm, I've got an idea.
In completely unrelated news, he reckons the fight was boring because of that and Tyson being in survival mode.
So. Yep.

More from Jake Paul
"There was a point where he (Tyson) was not engaging back, I could just tell his age was showing a little bit. That violence war thing... that went away as the rounds went on."
'The Problem Child' revealed he sprained his ankle just three weeks before the fight with Mike Tyson. "It made everything more mentally difficult." He added he missed around two weeks of sparring.
On Serrano loss: "It's always a weird feeling in the locker room. I feel for Amanda."

Jake Paul speaks on main event
Initial thoughts on Tyson: "I was just so prepared. It didn't phase me and I just felt so at home."
On taking foot off the gas: "Yeah, definitely a bit. I wanted to give the fans a show but I didn't want to hurst someone that didn't need to be hurt."
Jake Paul hits back at doubters: "People just love to hate me. I intentionally say things for people to hate. That's what I like to do. If people want to see more... give me a couple of months."
On the crowd: "I tried to give the fight the best fight I possibly could. When someone's just surviving in the ring, it's hard to make it exciting. I don't care what people have to say. It is what it is."
"I'd be down... let's run it" - when asked about a fight with Gervonta Davis. Paul was then quick to take a swipe at UFC star Conor McGregor and believes that fight 'will never happen.'

Mike Tyson reveals reason for biting his boxing gloves during Jake Paul fight
Mike Tyson joked he has a "biting fixation" after repeatedly biting down on his boxing gloves during his comeback fight against Jake Paul.
On a night where Netflix streams crashed and fans walked out on the main event in Dallas, Tyson's first professional fight in 19 years ended in defeat. Tyson, 58, had no answer for the 27-year-old YouTube star, who claimed victory on the judges' scorecards 80-72 with two judges and 79-73 with the third. The pair embraced in the ring post-fight, with announcer Ariel Helwani asking Tyson - who had been struggling to move throughout, clearly hampered both by age and a knee injury - about his display. He queried: "The broadcast team was debating what you were doing with your gloves, was it a mouth piece issue or were you just biting on your glove?"
"I have a habit of biting my gloves when I fight," Tyson replied before adding: "I have a biting fixation."

Katie Taylor speaks post-fight
"I think it was a different fight from the first time. I started off a bit slow and changed it up in the second half of the fight. I think I definitely landed the bigger punches and I think that's what won it for me. I'm just proud to be part of such a big night in women's boxing."
On headbutt: "It just happens sometime when you're fighting a southpaw. It was completely accidental. It's a rough sport and sometimes you get head clashes... you have to fight through them."
She added: "Yeah I'd do it again (the trilogy) if she wants."
On Serrano: "Our styles blend very. She's obviously very aggressive and she has a great chin. She has a great will to win. It just ends up being a classic war each time. I'm just so happy to be sat here as the winner again. Another win, another great performance, we move on!"

Conor McGregor loses $1million thanks to Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight result
Conor McGregor's $1million weekend double bet is down the drain after Mike Tyson's loss to Jake Paul.
The Irishman nailed his colours to the mast and was backing the ex-heavyweight champion to get the job done in what was his first professional fight in nearly two decades. Tyson though was dealt a points defeat against Paul in Texas.
Less than an hour before the bout McGregor took to social media to underline his confidence that Tyson would get the win - putting his money where his mouth is as he placed huge sums on Paul, who has only lost once in his boxing career, suffering another defeat.

Rafael Cordeiro on main event
Mike Tyson's coach, Rafael Cordeiro, had his say on the heavyweight at the post-fight press conference.
"We work for seven months for this moment. I truly believed we had this victory before the fight. He never asked to give up. We are really proud of Mike, the way he trained for seven months, he put his life aside for training.
"He's the people's champ. He's inspired many people outside of the ring. The most important thing that Mike is going back home to his loved ones."
